MikieAnimal Type: Dog
Pet's Story / Bio
It had been several months since my 15 year old Sheltie passed away. I had fostered a couple of dogs for CARE, but decided that it was time for a dog to keep as my own.
The only thing was, I wasn’t interested in house training a dog. I wanted a small mature lap dog, one that was already house trained. My husband agreed, though he was not really interested in getting a pet. He liked his freedom to come and go. I work with Heather Harris (CARE volunteer caseworker), so I had asked her to keep an eye out for me in her work with CARE.
Not too long after that, CARE called one week to tell me about a little white Shih Tzu. His owner, an elderly gentleman, had unexpectedly passed away and the family did not want the dog. I picked up the dog, Mikie, from the vet on Saturday. When I got him home he was immediately attracted to my husband. Mikie had been raised for two years by a man, and men are what he was comfortable with. There was an instant bond.
My husband, as I said, did not want a dog ….. but the dog sure wanted the man. They have become quite close. Here are a couple of pictures of them at the lake. [posted 07-10-2012]
