When a pet gets lost or found, there are a number of things you can do to quickly reunite the pet with his guardian. Here are some suggestions:
- Post a digital picture of the lost/found pet on CARE's Lost and Found site. Click here
- Make a flyer with a picture of the lost/found pet and post it around your neighborhood; provide a copy to your city animal shelter (see list below).
- Post a free lost/found ad in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Click on the following link to place your ad: http://www.ardemgaz.com/class/SubmitFreeAd.asp.
- Call local groomers and veterinarians.
- Visit local animal shelters to see if your pet is there. You can call but the safest bet is to make a personal visit. Don't rely on the shelter attendant-what is brown to one person can be red to another or tan to yet another.
- Transport a found pet to your city animal shelter or veterinarian, and ask to have the pet scanned to check for an implanted microchip (which will provide contact information for the pet's owner through the related microchip company's database).
- If you have to go to work or sleep, leave out your pet's favorite dish, luring him with the scent. You can also leave out his/her bed or something else with his/her scent.
- Talk to your mail carrier, newspaper delivery person or anyone who is regularly in your neighborhood.
