CARE'S SPAY/NEUTER CLINICS:

May 24, 2008 - PIT BULL CLINIC

Monthly spay/neuter clinics are hosted at our facility at the Little Rock Animal Shelter on 4500 South Kramer (just off University Avenue and First Tee Way), Little Rock - 501-376-3067. You may also contact us at clinic@careforanimals.org.

Click here for information and qualifications on CARE's free spay/neuter clinic.
Please note: The clinic is only for individuals who make less than $17,200 a year or to families with an income less than $25,000 per year.

Since the inception of it's spay and neuter program, CARE has provided over 7,107 free sterilizations for pets from low income families through our free spay/neuter clinics. Only around 25-35 animals can be sterilized at each clinic but CARE suggests alternatives to those who can't get in the clinic. CARE has also assisted in the rescue of over 2,080 animals which have been sterilized.

CARE helps our community with three spay/neuter programs:
  • Free spay/neuter clinics for qualifying low-income families
  • DJ&T Grant Program
  • RSVP program to help subsidize cost of sterilization during a shelter adoption

  • Click the links above for more information about the program.

Free spay/neuter clinics for qualifying low-income families:

Each month, CARE hosts a spay/neuter clinic for pets from qualifying families. Since its inception in January 2000, thousands of pets have benefited from this program.

The clinics are held on the grounds of the Little Rock Animal Shelter. In October 2001, the City of Little Rock provided a portable building and CARE outfitted it with a surgery suite and kennels for our clinics. CARE is grateful to Little Rock Animal Services and its staff for helping us in our spay/neuter efforts.

Our clinics are free to Little Rock residents whose individual income is less than $17,200 or family income is less than $25,000. Priority at each clinic is given to qualifying Little Rock residents.

CARE pays a veterinarian to perform the surgeries and pays for all clinic supplies. CARE could not conduct these clinics without the dedicated support of our volunteer staff and the financial support of our donors.

    DJ&T Grant Program

CARE uses grant money provided by the DJ&T Foundation to subsidize sterilizations for dogs whose owners may not meet the qualifications for our free spay/neuter clinics. Bob Barker, well-known television personality, established the DJ&T Foundation in 1995. The Foundation's goal is to fund low cost spay/neuter clinics and voucher programs as a way to help relieve animal over population. Barker, who ends every "Price is Right" show with an appeal to viewers to spay or neuter their pets, felt compelled to do more to address the problem.

CARE Board Member Diane Tidwell spends countless hours each week speaking personally with people to determine if they qualify for a DF&T grant. With the help of the DJ&T grants and Diane's commitment to this program, CARE has helped with hundreds of sterilizations for our community's animals.

    RSVP Program

CARE began the RSVP Program in 2005 when it saw an opportunity to help subsidize sterilizations for animals being adopted from a central Arkansas shelter. If the family wants to adopt a pet but is unable to pay for the full cost of a sterilization for the animal (which is usually mandatory before the pet can leave the shelter), CARE steps in to help.

This program is 100% underwritten by CARE and has already helped facilitate hundreds of adoptions from local shelters.
